Innamincka

Innamincka

The first time I called in to Innamincka, it was with outback pub broker, Peter Moore, who was calling in to see the publican, Kim, who owned the Innamincka and the Birdsville pubs at that stage. I remember it was a scorcher of a day, over 41 degrees, and we had to wait in the relative cool of the bar for the temp to cool down enough for us to take off on the dirt strip.

After we finally took off, we called into the historical Dig Tree for a look. It's only a short flight away, 23nm up to the north-east and well worth a landing at the Nappa Merrie Dig Tree strip to walk down to the billabong and read up on those last fateful days of the explorers Burke & Wills. Get the co-ords of this strip before you go, as there are two others nearby that could lure you in by mistake.

There are a couple of options of accomm at Innamincka, good bar and meals at the pub and the last time we went we did a fantastic champagne sunset cruise on the Cooper Creek!  Get amongst it. True outback.
